Description
My much-loved and fully restored RHD Volkswagen Late Bay/ T2 Camper Van is looking for a new home. ‘Daphne’ is a 1973 ‘Late Bay’ six-seater T2 campervan with a perfect colour scheme - ‘diamond white on guinea/ baby blue’. She is in excellent condition for a 52-year-old and has been lovingly brought back to life with a comprehensive nuts-and-bolts professional restoration which took 3 years to complete. (See photos of parts purchased and restoration, as it will give you some concept of the restoration carried out).
SOME important highlights are as follows: new (reconditioned) gear box (600 miles ago) & big bore engine (3, 500 miles ago), new full wiring loom, many new panels (including full belly pan), new kitchen units, with quality sink and fresh/ wastewater, gas hob and fridge freezer. A split charger allows the fridge to stay cool when travelling. The electrical hook up is used for the fridge if staying overnight. The LED lighting in the roof is so low powered that it can be used overnight without any hook-up.
New anti-slip flooring and headlining complement the kitchen, and everything feels light and airy. There is plenty of room for storage – should you wish to bring family and friends along to enjoy the experience. Most importantly, the new, full-width rock and roll bed allows you to have a proper sleep.
Daphne has benefitted from improved handling due to the new heavy-duty handling kit. She has a top-quality fuel tank, a full new wiring loom, refurbished wheels with classic ‘white wall’ camper tyres with stainless steel hub caps. Any rust found was professionally removed, panels replaced, and rust inhibitor applied during the restoration.
Car tax is free, we have found the insurance to be very low. Daphne has an up to date, agreed valuation of £33, 000 -issued on 10th April 2025. Six new seatbelts have been fitted. She was serviced approximately 300 miles ago and achieved zero advisories on her last MOT. (Note, this age vehicle is MOT-exempt, however, we will include a full MOT if wished in the asking price).
Security includes a ‘Gene Berg’ Gear shifter with security lock and key. We have has also fitted with an isolation switch on her car battery. Further upgrades include a full set of high-quality, new door locks – which all work on the same key.
The cab area dashboard has also been restored and has a retro style music player with USB/ blue-tooth and hands-free capability. The new oil temperature gauge has the sensor is on the oil dipstick. Daphne has an amazing klaxon horn that shows off her character and makes everyone smile. She is fun, timeless, beautiful and jam packed with character. She is versatile and loved by all age groups. She is equally at home whether on a daytrip, full road trip or even attending a wedding. She will put a smile on your face when you are driving her, and a smile on everyone else in the vicinity and people often point and wave. She has the unmistakeable air-cooled sound and reassuring classic door shutting sound of classic vehicles. Daphne is a beautifully restored van in arguably the most desirable shape and colour. Don’t miss the opportunity to be part of her history. If you are genuinely interested in buying, please get in contact and book a visit to see her. I believe she is a bargain at £30, 000 for a Right-Hand Drive Late Bay Type 2. I will consider offers close to the asking price – but please be realistic. This is an iconic, classic and beautiful vehicle. Thank you for your interest.
