Description

This is a very early example of the Mk4 Sprite having been manufactured in Feb 1967 and still has the earlier type front grille.
Like all MK4 Sprite's this car benefits from the full folding hood and more powerful 1275cc engine, although this car has previously been tuned for endurance rallying and reliability trials, so has even more than the original 65bhp on tap.
The car was imported from the USA back to the UK in 2006, hence the triple wipers, and was prepared for motorsport whilst being converted back to RHD. At this time the car was finished in Iris Blue.

Having been modified and rebuilt it won its class in the 2006 LeJog Reliability Trial and competed in numerous other events across the UK and Europe.
The car was then laid up for a few years before the co-driver of the Le Jog event bought the car and brought it back to life in 2012, further campaigning the car both in the UK and overseas in tours and reliability trials.
With the passing of this owner, and the car having been laid up again, it found a new owner whose project was to restore it for road use in 2022, leaving the mechanical specification of a high lift cam etc, giving the engine a rebuild and tune, but removing the roll cage, harness and hard top.
Following a full bare metal respray and reassembly of the car, the project was complete and the car again put up for sale, which is when I acquired the car in 2023, becoming just the 4th owner since 2006.
In my ownership the car has had a further tune up, balanced carb's, a new starter and water pump, plus a recent full service to include all the grease points being lubricated just 600 miles ago.
Now showing just over 85, 000 (although this cannot be verified due to a second-hand replacement speedo on import back to the UK), I have done over 2, 000 miles in the last 2 years. The mileage is less relevant having had 2 engine rebuilds and numerous new parts in this time and appears to have only completed 5, 000 miles in total since 2006. This Sprite drives incredibly well, with strong performance (much better than standard), excellent brakes and handling, is reliable and starts every time. It has been run on Shell V-Power fuel throughout my ownership.
The tyres show very little wear and the car sits on a set of 13" replica Minilites, which are in excellent condition. There is an additional lower dash panel fitted with USB and 5amp charging points, this also houses some of the additional switches installed when used in competition.
The car remains in excellent condition, with the only areas to note being a small bubble of surface corrosion on the O/ S sill at the rear and a 2cm split in the seam between the rear poly screen and hood on the crease where it folds (see pictures).
The car comes complete with the following separate items: Outdoor breathable cover, Hard Top which is finished in white and is in reasonable condition (just a few digs and scratches evident), a roll cage with some light surface corrosion, but easily cleaned up, 4 point race harness which is undamaged and like new, boot mountable luggage rack in very good condition and a set of bumpers in average condition from a 1968 Sprite (should you wish to return the car to its original look).

Now with 2 dogs and my wife preferring an automatic, I am offering the car for sale so we can find a suitable classic to meet our new requirements.
