Description
• Built with Jaguars written permission, the Aristocat was designed as a kit form classic to be built using ‘donor’ components from any of the Jaguar XJ6, XJS or XJ12 models, 1968 through 1996.
• The Aristocat features a steel spaceframe chassis which is fully bracketed to accept all the major Jaguar mechanical components. The XJ series suspension axles are used un-modified which results in the car being five inches wider than the XK120 or XK140, but only one inch wider than the XK150. The additional width, let in down the centre of the car, allows for a much more spacious cockpit and boot than the originals, and drivers of well over six feet can be easily accommodated.
• This example is finished in bright post office red in very good condition
• It has thick fibreglass bodywork with deep colour in gel coat
• Bodywork presents well with good panel fit and no accident damage. There is a scuff on the bottom of the front nearside wing and small holes in rear panel (near rear reflectors) from previously fitted rear lights (see photos).
• Black roof, side screens, in good overall condition. Powder coated roof frame. Side windows could benefit from minor fettling to make 100% watertight, see photos (I have never taken it out in the wet).
• Chromework in excellent condition presents well with only light tarnish noticeable to some elements.
• Car sits on painted wire wheels in good condition, tyres have plenty of wear left.
• Neatly detailed exterior including leather bonnet strap and chrome catches (dual locking for MOT purposes)
• Underside is in fair condition with surface rust on some of the original components structurally very sound as the original components appear to be made from iron girders to support a far larger vehicle! The galvanised chassis from Autotune is is excellent condition.
• Oatmeal leather seats with matching vinyl interior trim all in very good condition. The interior is somewhat darker than it appears in some of the images, the darker ones are more accurate. Seats from Jaguar X-type are larger than originals for extra comfort and to add headrests for safety.
• Carpeted throughout cabin floor and boot - would benefit from edge trimming.
• Switchgear and dials from XJ donor car in good working order some no longer functional - e. g. cruise control.
• The 4. 0 litre straight six AJ engine is one of the earliest from Jaguar with a fuel injection system and is extremely reliable, always firing up impeccably first time.
• A comforting growl emits from the exhaust outlets as there is only one silencer per pipe rather than the original two.
• The 5 speed manual box married to the relatively fuel efficient engine management system provides reasonable mpg and ample power.
• Three spoke Astrali steering wheel in good order.
• Spare wire wheel in boot• The donor Jaguar XJ40 Sovereign Reg 'G679VUL' was built in late 1989 and delivered as a company car to the CEO of The NatWest Bank in March of 1990; he then received it as a retirement gift when he left.
• In the following 24 years it covered 117, 000 miles prior to being rebuilt as an Aristocat in between 2014 and 2018 by a mechanical engineer.
• It gained Individual Approval Certificate on 17 Dec 2018 and is correctly registered on the V5C as an 'Aristocat 130' Reg. 'G13MKS'
• I put it on a more age appropriate plate 'VIG 422' after purchase in 2021
• Built with original suspension at the front and adjustable coilovers at the rear.
• Car has covered fewer than 1000 miles since build but is capable of very many more.
• Workshop manual included.
• Huge amount of history is available on the car, with MOTs, service history back to original purchase.
• It has the original owners manuals and Green Leather wallet.
• It has an MOT until August 2025 and is ready to be driven away.
