Description
This is a very special car!
1977 Gaz Volga 2401. Classic Black.
A very rare transition version between Series 1 and Series 2 of the model.
Many unusual features, such as "fangs" (half-teeth) around the front number plate only featured on Series 1 but already with the front fog lights that were added on Series 2. This front bumper style was in production for 6 months ONLY and is considered a rare artefact for the model. Soft Series 1 door cards but already featuring Series 2 horizontal pattern. This model retained Series 1 chrome rear-view mirror, rear bumper, lights, reflectors, front indicator light diffusers.
One owner (!) from new before restoration. Garaged since 1977.
This car is completely original apart from the mud guards. Original wheels.
- No welding was carried out
- Car condition is excellent
- Chrome parts are in excellent condition
- Beautiful black exterior / red interior contrast
- This model was an export version!
The following restoration work was carried out:
- Full respray to restore the paintwork
- Original interior - only seat padding was replaced
- Full Service has been completed
- Car has been fully undersealed
- Front and rear lights are brand new
NOTE:
The stereo/ cassette unit in the car was added below the original radio. It is not an original feature. However, the work was carried out to a high standard and the decision was made to leave this upgrade rather than replace the interior. In 1970-80s USSR a Black Gaz Volga was a privilege only a senior government official could afford. This is the Soviet equivalent of the Rover P5B.
GAZ Volga 2401 were built to last and were also used as Taxis for many years in the USSR with many cars doing over 1, 000, 000 km.
Volga was not a vehicle you could easily buy even if you had the money and it was always a symbol of status and power.
This is a unique 47 year old vehicle. As it will be classified as a historical vehicle - It will not have to be taxed or MOT'd
