1976 BMW R60/ 6
The earliest version of the / 6 with drum brakes.
Bought a couple of years ago to use for the odd tour in the UK but life took over & the bike has stodd virtually unused since. I decided to start thinning out my fleet of old Brits & Italians to use the BM more but during its recommission it became clear it was a bike I'd “grown out of”. The years on my clock are increasing to the point the BM is becoming a heavy machine in comparison to my 250 & 175 Morinis which now suit my needs rather better.
So I've not fully completed the recommission. A new Exide battery has been fitted as the old one was getting tired but I've not fitted the new (genuine BMW) front gaiters. As you can see the fork tubes are perfect.
It runs & rides fine. Plenty of tread on the fairly new tyres. A full stainless exhaust system is fitted ( the exhaust nuts are removable not seized up like many, removal tool included). Its got a Boyer ignition fitted, recovered seat & over £100s worth of new service items from Motorworks which I laid in for future maintenance. BMW carrier & panniers with keys included. 2 sets of ignition keys including the odd original round handled one. See later pix for panniers , tools etc.
Its a well used bike which has been cared for in its nearly 50 year life. The paint isnt as good as it may look in the pix, the chrome is ok but with “patina, later switch fitted to the left bar.
Not concours but ready for many more miles. Sensibly priced I think given the current market. I see similar ones in dealers at £5-7k but I doubt anyone will be rushing in with a wad of notes soon.
