Description
This electric start model is the sleeved down version of the TE610E which far outsold the 410. The engine subsequently is much less stressed. The auto valve lifting mechanism is very slightly different but other than that it's virtually the same. This engine design is stunning and is still seen on current models such as the AJP PR7 650. It's beautifully engineered and a pleasure to work on.
As far as I understand I am the full 2nd owner of this 2001 Husqvarna TE410E. The 'E' representing electric start. It's a 399cc liquid cooled 4 valve four-stroke putting out 34 bhp. 6 speed box with a nice high ratio top to knock the revs down for fast road sections. Front suspension by Marzocchi and rear by Sachs. Ignition is digital CDI and brakes are by Brembo. Dry weight is only 116kg. It's MOT'ed until October 2026.
Everything is fully working including all the electrics. I have owned it for 5 years and have only covered 4000km for winter lane riding. Please read below for it's full history and all works done. I bought this Husqvarna TE410E as a non runner during Covid. It had only 14, 000 km on the clock. I had just retired and fancied a project. The Husky shop informed the previous owner its cam chain has had it and the repair would be potentially expensive and sold it onto me. However I discovered the engine could be turned over by hand with no issues so took a chance. As I stripped the cam chain side to the engine the real problem became quite obvious when I got to the rotor. The magnets were cracked and disintegrating. Electrix World manufacture a replacement that fits both the Husky 410 and the 610, so I was in luck. This replacement was also the route to the cam chain which despite the misdiagnosis I also replaced. Given my growing confidence this bike was going to work out I also replaced the following….
Head bearing
Front fork seals
Carb ultrasonically cleaned with new jets & seals
Upgraded clutch (TE630)
Air filter
Engine & rear sprocket
Chain
Battery
Grips
Starter Motor brushes
Also added Barkbuster guards
Having run it now as my winter bike for 5 years I have added another 4000km without any issues but with my 70th birthday just months off my agility is no longer up to what this bike demands. It pulls like a horse with a tremendous soundtrack through those twin exhausts. At 125kg wet its performance delivers way over expectation for just 400cc whilst neatly keeping you in a cheap tax bracket.
As for its negative points the rear tyre is squaring off a tad (Michelin MT21) and there are a few scuffs and bits of flaky paint which are in keeping for its age. At some point in its past some fairly aggressive engine degreaser has etched streaks on the N/ S gold engine case. See pic. It’s passed all of its last 5 MOT’s without any advisories. Just Re-MOT'ed. Next due October 2026. No advisories. Mileage now at 18300km
It’s a rare and brilliant machine that’s 100% original, uses no oil or water, all electrics fully functional, goes like a rocket and has a tendency to bring out latent hooligan tendencies, so be warned.
