Description

This is a unique opportunity to acquire a fully restored body of a 1972 Constructam Coral Caravan. It was restored as a caravan to keep so the materials and labour were not cut in quality to make a profit. I have spent over 8 months of labour and £7000 on materials to get it to this condition.

Its a very reluctant sale but now the arrival of my son has reduced my available time to complete the interior restoration, and honestly I now just need the to allocate the money to other things. I hope the "bare canvas" interior is suitable for someone with more time and money than me to create a custom interior to their specification. I have cardboard patterns of the original interior that will be provided along with the caravan if needed. There is also the original sink and parts of the cooker but its incomplete and needs further restoration

Fully restored with an interior this caravan would be expected to fetch £35, 000 to £52, 000 depending on specification. This estimated price was provided to me from a company in the netherlands that specialises in Constructam restorations. I wish I had the time and remaining capital to complete it but unfortunately thats not the case.

The interior has been insulated with adhesive closed cell foam with foil covering along with fleece blanket insulation. The upper part of the interior has been clad in mill finish aluminium sheet and the lower part in 4mm white aluminium composite panels. This lower white paneling is a base for what I would expect to be finished in something else. My intention was a veneer finish or something similar. The lower panels have been made removable so any additional wiring can be placed behind if required. The same goes for the Upper aluminium sections above the windows. The floor has a Hardboard cover that has not been fully fixed so this can be used as a template for the final floor covering.

I acquired this caravan from a caravan storage facility that it had been left at for years. It appears the previous owner had started the restoration by removing the interior items but had not stored them inside for a period of time and they were damaged beyond repair. My original intention was to reproduce the interior to a similar vintage curved style but higher specification than the original design.

One of the joys of this Caravan design is the one piece fiberglass roof and side walls reaching down to the waistband line. This ensures water damage is very unlikely over time. I spent a significant amount of time meticulously repairing the small areas of damage that had occurred over the previous 50 years and had the top fiberglass section professionally resprayed by Peels Motorkraft in Bristol.

The lower section has had new 1. 2mm Aluminium sheet crafted and mirror polished to the highest standard I could achieve. The steel support frame for this was in very good condition from the original 1972 factory finish so minimal surface treatment was required but an additional epoxy paint coating was applied as well as anti corrosion tape on mating surfaces to prevent any Galvanic corrosion between the steel and Aluminium.

The original plywood floor has been replaced with a one piece insulated composite panel and the chassis and running gear was fully stripped and painted with epoxy paint. Some additional structural parts were added to the chassis frame for the floor attachment as well as being able to house removable AL-KO corner steadys.

The orginal steel wheel arches have been replaced by custom made aluminium ones eliminating any possible issues associated with steel wheel arch corrosion.

Where possible stainless fasteners and bolts have been used , and every attempt made to ensure this caravan lasts another 50 years or more.

New window rubbers, door rubbers & trim seals were purchased from Constructam Service in the Netherlands who have purpose made rubbers to match the orginal design. There were also new clear skylights, Gas box lid & gas box purchased from a custom manufacturer in europe .
All new lights and wiring installed with a 13pin plug but a 13pin to 7pin adapter is included if required. The Front marker lights are Lucas 1130 Glass lens which also flash with the indicators. The rear lamps are Lucas L539 style.

New wheel rims & tyres, including a spare, and spare Moon hubcaps.

The side awning rails have not been re-installed as they has too much wear for my preference but can be supplied with the Caravan if required. There are also a selection of other parts that could be included as well.

Please see the link below to an iphoto album with over 800 photos of the restoration.

Body length 3900 mm
Total length 5050 mm
Body max width 2060 mm
Internal height middle 1850 mm
Overall height 2400 mm

The Caravan is located near Bristol Airport in the UK. Viewing is possible with suitable notice.

Any further questions please ask . Unfortunately I know little of the Caravans history prior to my purchase of it, but as its been pretty much fully rebuilt and is better than new ( in my opinion :) then hopefully thats not too much of an issue.
