Description
London Taxi Carbodies Fairway 1996 Black
2. 7 Nissan diesel
Owned since June 2012
MOT until July 2026
Mileage unknown, but estimate approximately 300, 000
I'm looking for £3, 350, but I would be open to sensible negotiation.
Included are a used (but good) set of the window surround rubbers, and spare new front and rear brake pads, and some original red grab handles and a pair of Perspex inner door handle covers. Also comes with the aluminium wheelchair ramps and the metal step that slots into the sill on the near side.
For the right price I will include in the sale a bespoke and unique basket-style, full length roof rack that was made by a London taxi driver and used when he went on family holidays in his cab.
I replaced the "top hat" light unit about 18 months ago with a very good second hand one. It has wooden door capping on all doors, the grab handles are covered in orange or green leather (from the Clarks shoe factory!), wooden steering wheel, 4 good tyres, and twin USB sockets in the rear, and fully functioning intercom.
In 2022 we drove the taxi down to Casablanca where we had the bodywork repaired - the rust was cut out and new metal was let in. It's cheaper than filler! The entire car had a glass out re-spray, the seats were reupholstered in dark green vinyl and the rear headlining was renewed in grey vinyl. We picked it up in August that year and drove it back to the UK.
There is now some bubbling on the paint here and there, and some superficial surface rust underneath the vehicle (as you would expect), and at the moment the rear n/ s passenger window doesn’t work (it’s electric, but the metal bar that holds the glass as it goes up and down has broken. I will do my best to fix it before it sells)
It has some paperwork with it, detailing repairs and parts fitted during my ownership. Also included will be an original" Fairway Driver's Handbook". Finally having to part with our beloved taxi. This is our third Fairway and it will be strange not to have one in the fleet!
It has been a pretty reliable car for most of the last 12 years - reliable enough to have taken us on holiday to Morocco, Sardinia, the Italian Alps and a lot of France.
I insure it through the NFU (National Farmers Union) for a reasonable premium which includes European trips and breakdown cover.
This is a daily driver and not a trailer queen, and it shows the marks of having been driven and loved in equal amounts! If you're after a show car then you may need to look elsewhere, but if what you want is a comfortable, spacious, distinctive and now pretty rare vehicle then come and have a look.
Please do get in touch if you have any questions, and I will do my best to answer them.
