Description
I have enjoyed the vehicle for almost 8 years. It was acquired from a specialist in Whitchurch in 2017. Prior to him there have been 4 owners.
The jeep is an M201 Hotchkiss, plated as remanufactured by the ERGM works in Le Maltournee for Ministere des Armees Paris 1971. It incorporates the benefit of modifications up to 1971.
First registered in the UK in 1986 the jeep is in good running and reliable condition.
The body has a military patina, the engine compartment is a delight. Drives well. The French government purchased 22, 000 war surplus jeeps from the USA after WW2. In various conditions the jeeps required maintenance and remanufacture by French workshops. The serial number on the plate and chassis of this jeep is 18962 which suggests that this vehicle was assembled in 1960. The remanufacture in 1971 ensured that the Jeep was modified by the Maltournee workshop to the latest M201 24v specifications.
The French government described the jeeps generically as 1942 jeeps at the sale 1970’s auction, accurate dating is difficult.
I have kept the vehicle in good serviceable condition. Changed the fluids regularly and made the inspection of the critical parts.
The original 24volt regulator gave some trouble which I was not able to rectify. I installed an electronic regulator supplied by Jeffery Engineering and new batteries. The electronic module is fitted into the regulator box so it looks original but much more reliable. I have also installed a phone charger under the dash so as not to spoil the original look.
The vehicle has only been used dry miles since my purchase. It has summer hood and 1/ 4 screens. I also have new and unused winter weight hood and side screens manufactured by Worthing.
There are a few spares which includes a dynamo and coil, an original starting crank, a workshop manual and books.
