For sale is my 1985 BMW E23 728i, 5-speed manual. The car was originally a South African built car and was imported to the UK in 2024 when I acquired it.
The car was in overall excellent condition for its age at 40 years old, the previous two owners in South Africa spared no expense on this car, the original owner had it serviced by the same dealer from new to 125000 KMs, then the second owner took over and kept a detailed list of all work they did from 142000 KM to 203000 KM in an Excel spreadsheet that I have a copy of. The car is currently on 204500 KM or approx. 127000 miles, which is an average of just 3200 miles per year!
In my ownership I have completed some additional mechanical work, including a new hydraulic brake booster and some cosmetic restoration, such as the bonnet insulation has been replaced and the car has been detailed.
The car, as expected being a South African import is 100% rust free and has recently had a full Lanoguard rust protection treatment done. The condition of the paint work is 99% with all original paint except on the front drivers wing, there are a few age related marks but nothing that detracts from the overall presentation of the car. The car is in Tunis Beige Metallic, which is a BMW SA specific colour name, it closely resembles the European colour of Bronzit Beige Metallic. The interior is also in excellent condition with only some slight wear to the drivers tan leather seat bolster which I just haven't had the time to get it sorted so far.
The car is fitted with an aftermarket radio, however I can include an age appropriate but untested Becker Bavaria Electronic and the electric aerial works!
Mechanically the car is strong and pulls without any issue through all the gears of the 5-Speed manual gearbox and that manual gearbox makes all the difference in the E23 it enhances the driving experience over the sluggish auto box. The car also has a stainless steel exhaust to original BMW specification along with the factory fitted tow bar option which adds stronger rear springs which doesn't have any impact on the wonderful handling and driving comfort.
The car has Electric Mirrors, Electric Windows, Power Steering, Air-Conditioning, Cruise Control, Central Locking and Leather Seats, what more do you need?
This car does not have electric/ heated seats which can fail and be difficult to repair, the sunroof that can leak or the on-board computer, which again is difficult to repair if it fails because of the age of the car. The odometer is functional which is a common failure point on early BMWs when a plastic gear in the cluster breaks.
The car comes with its complete key and documentation set.
The cars specification and condition lends it to being a collectors car that can be driven, not only at the weekends but for the touring holidays on the continent or as every day transport as not only does it keep up with modern traffic, being 40 years old is exempt from all Scottish LEZs most of the LEZs in England and from April next year can be changed to Historic classification so will become MOT and VED exempt. The car has a current, clean valid MOT.
A practical classic that is appreciating in value and rare to find in such exceptional condition.
