Description

1929 Ford Dreyer Racing Car with Valuable UK Road Registration.
Highly original 1929 Ford racing car, this car was raced throughout the 1930 and 40’s across the east coast of America. The car was designed and constructed by Pop Dreyer, believed for the Marchese Brothers and raced by Rajo Jack. It remains in its original paint including original sign writing and racing numbers. The car is in its original and unrestored condition and has numerous layers of paint, one of which is Silver. Silver was apparently reserved for the Championship winning cars / drivers.
Following significant research by the previous owner, the following information is confirmed.
The Family of the Original Owner were contacted, they confirmed that the car was purchased from a deceased estate sometime in the late 1960’s by their Grandfather now deceased. The car was stored in a warehouse for decades, remaining untouched since purchase.
Brian Coffee, an Ohio vintage Sprint Car collector and researcher bought Jim Etters historical records. Etter was an avid early Sprint Car collector and historian. Coffee advised the previous owner that the records confirmed the car as being an early steel bodied car, of which only two examples were constructed in steel, all further cars being aluminium bodied examples, this car being built for the Marchese Brother’s in 1929 ( May be earlier noting steel construction) whom began racing in the early 1920’s. Coffee advised that the Marchese Brothers are believed to have been supported financially by Al Capones criminal organisation which may have paid for the construction and running of this car.
Coffee advised that the car was driven by Rajo Jack and ran with a Miller 183 engine prior to being retired from competitive racing.
The car has undergone a complete refurbishment including:
Completely overhauled engine, White Metal Process, New Pressurised Oil System, Riley Racing Overhead Valve Conversion including new Stromberg Carburetters and Fuel Pump.
REFURBISHED,
Gearbox with new Bearings and Seals, 4 Wheels with new ? tyres , Braking System, Front Axle, Dashboard Instruments,, all refurbished over the last 18 months.
Seat and cover, Exhaust, Radiator, Front Brakes, Wiring Loom to include Safety Cut off switch,, All Brand New
Since completion of the above, with days to spare, we competed in the VHRA Pendine Sands Speed Trials where on the first run we recorded 83. 6 mph! A fabulous first effort, without any previous running, literally turned up and ran !
Due to poor weather this was the only run, but there is much, much more to come from this highly rewarding and Fabulous Racer!
Sprints and Hill Climbs would be incredible in this rare and highly sought after Race Car.
The Appeal of this Vintage Race car is further enhanced with the addition of a UK Registration, so going down the Pub, takes on a whole new meaning !
