Description
Lovely head turner landy pickup with hi-cap back, really don't see many like it. Also a very amusing (non transferrable) registration.
I've had it about 8 years (bought from a dealer) and reluctantly need to part with 'Ruby' as although well loved, no longer practical for my needs. Really is a reluctant sale, but I need the space. Open to sensible offers.
Handles a full load and long trip without complaint or issue.
Nice dry cab, electric windows and a CD player, which is a massive step up from my old series 3...
Mileage as expected for it's age. However, no paperwork but I understand from the dealer that a previous owner uprated to a TDi3 engine at some point - so the mileage isn't a true reflection of the engine wear.
Only 4 years off of tax/ mot exemption for a classic.
Alloy wheels, electric windows, TDi3 engine
MOT to May 26. There some advisories but (as always when you reach an age) due to having an old grubby bottom.
New battery about 2 years ago, new alternator 3 years ago. Receipts for recent work.
Needs: new spare tyre, the current one is ancient and has more fine lines than an Ordnance survey map of the lake district.
Paintwork is good/ OK for it's age, with scuffs expected for a working vehicle.
It comes with an unfitted checker-plate lockable box that would easily bolt to the pickup frame. (73cm (28 1/ 2") wide by 53cm (21 1/ 2") Deep by 49cm (19") High )
It is a very pleasant drive, reliable and surprisingly less thirsty on diesel than you'd expect. However, I don't drive it more than a couple of times a week, so it does last. I bought 'Ruby' as a step up from the series III landies I previously owned (a station wagon, then a pickup) as I was fed up with being drafty. Totally lucked out at the right place and the right time for this one. I've not seen another hi-cap of the age like it, wide wheel arches, alloys and a 'rioja red' paint job.
Anecdotally, I've been told it was originally a station wagon and was converted (also that the engine was upgraded) but there is nothing I can locate to support this. The dealer who sold it told me this, but unfortunately had nothing to clarify it, so it is as it appears.
I will miss the pleasure of driving around the hills of Exmoor 'high up' so getting the best views... Not to mention being able to cope with the odd unclassified road without complaint.
As older Landies go, this is a nice step between the current gadget-tastic new ones and the originals - it still has plenty on it you can do with a Haynes manual and doesn't need the computer to tell you 'no' when anything is amiss.
It really does make you smile to drive it.
Open to sensible offers, bankers drafts only please.
