Our Camper 'Vanessa' is a 1985 Honda Acty/ TN550 with a rare romahome back and she has only 27, 000 miles on the clock!
A friend and I bought her back in October last yeat as a little joint restoration project/ weekend van. She has served us well on multiple camping trips this year and completed a solid 2, 000 miles. However due to living in different towns now, we've decided to sell.
She runs well, starts on the button & never conked out on us. However she can run a little hot on the warmer sunny days (especially uphill).
Recent Work Done:
Just before we bought her she had new bushes on the steering rack & new cambelt fitted. Also had the new LED lights fitted front and rear.
Since we've had her shes had new brake lines (last MOT advisory). MOT is valid until 17/ 12/ 2025. Should be exempt from the end of September as she will be 40 years old.
Rust holes in the front cabin have been patched, treated and painted over.
Front cabin reupholstered to match the rear in faux black leather. (The original seat cover is in the back, should someone want to take it as a template to a professional re-upholsterer).
New nearly black out curtains in the rear.
A Small centre console has been made out of wood to hold the speakers for the radio, previously they were loose on the floor.
There is a bunch of paperwork, probably not all of it from the last 40 years but a decent amount. Has 2 sets of keys for the front and back. As well as this she comes with lots of spare parts including: HT leads & distributor cap, auxillary belt, cambelt original radio, spare tyre, original seat (as previously mentioned), sound deadening sheets, door and side window seals, pedal covers, new registration plates & bushes.
Functionality:
As a camper she functions very well, the rear bench seats fold out into a double bed. There is a small kitchen area at the rear with a sink one side and a 2 burner hob/ grill on the other.
There is plenty of storage, both under the seats (4 large cubby holes) and in shelves above the seats and kitchen area.
She is also fitted with electric hookup & gas line. However, we have NOT had these tested, opting for portable chargers and a portable gas stove. She also has 2 stabilizers at the rear for when parked at the camp site.
Things that need doing:
Unfortunatley on our last trip the exhaust had rusted off where it connects to the back box, so is now quite loud and will need fixing. There is a temporary metal shim on at present.
Also in the last week the battery light came on & the battery when checked with a volt meter shows as 12. 6v so the battery is not charging when the engine is running.
It is most likely the auxillary belt as there is a squeal that would indicate this. However I am not a mechanic so cannot say for certain.
Other than these things she should be good to go.
Price:
Struggled to price her as she is quite rare, especialy with the roamahome back.
Other good examples of Honda Actys without the roamahome seem to be priced at around £5-6k.
With that in mind and considering the work ours needs we've deceided to price her at £3, 250, but are open to offers.
Hopefully Vanessa will find a good home with someone who can enjoy her properly. This van is a charming little classic that unfortunatley cannot have the love it deserves with us at present. The quirky looks and round eyes of the van are enough to fall in love with her & she always gets lots of attention on the road! She could be an ideal first camper for someone or an addition to a collection!
