Dieser extrem seltene Carina GT-T verfügt über einen ungewöhnlichen Toyota-Motor, der mit Hilfe von Yamaha entwickelt wurde, dem 3T-GTEU. Es ist ein Twin-Cam-Twin-Spark-Turbomotor, der ordentliche 160 PS liefert, mit LSD, und war der erste seiner Art in Japan. Später wurde er zum 4T-Triebwerk weiterentwickelt, das in Toyotas Group-B-Werksrallye-Wagen eingesetzt wurde; der Motor ist bekannt für seine Einstellbarkeit und Bauqualität.
