The reluctant sale of this 36 year ownership 1962 Standard Vanguard 6. It was the current owner’s daily driver until she went overseas in 1996, the car came to the museum for storage but was actually put on show. The registration has been on hold ever since.
Less than 10, 000 Standard 6’s were made before production ended in 1963.
This NZ new Phase 3 presents well in its older paint, with good chrome and lovely interior. Will be sold with the jack, cover and tools.
Up close, the paint has a few old imperfections, there are some bubbles near the door bottoms, but appearance is very good.
Plugs in the sills suggest rust protection from new, looks never to have been welded, with all original pressings still evident and the spring hangers in good shape.
The wheel trims are good; the tyres will need replacing due to age but with plenty of tread. The exhaust looks recent (pre-storage).
Inside, the seats retrimmed in 1990’s and it’s been in storage since 1995, the headlining and dash top are original and carpets are in good condition.
The engine sports two Solex carburettors. We have just done all the fluids all levels are good, with new engine oil , coolant & brake fluid changed, cleaned the plugs, points and fuel filter. Diff and Gearbox oil topped up.
It starts easily and the 2-litre ‘six’ soon settles down to a creamy idle, with silky power delivery, it has factory overdrive, (optional on these) a taut ride with no wallowing, and no slop or wander in the steering.
The all-drum brakes & cylinders were new in 1995, prior to storage, we have just put new fluid in.
The floor gearchange feels fine driving it around the museum grounds.
Everything works, with warm oil pressure showing just under 50psi at tickover and up to 70psi on the move, the ammeter well in credit and temperature sitting under the ‘normal’ range.
