NEGATIVES
- The rear door only locks if you slam it.
- The gearbox is scrunchy when changing gear. I've got used to it, but I won't pretend it's not an issue. It'll help if you're comfortable double-clutching. (This issue has been consistent throughout my ownership and the previous owner's too. I assume the synchromeshes are tired.)
- Radiator fan wants renewing, but not urgently. It began life as a military 110 and was rebuilt as a camper by a previous owner. The chassis has been restored at some point, including a new rear crossmember.

The original engine has been replaced with a later, rebuilt 300Tdi, retaining the original LT77 gearbox was retained. (It's painted gold so it could be a genuine Gold Seal version, making it pretty special, but I can't prove this.) The engine starts reliably, pulls well, and isn't unduly smokey.

The bodywork is better than the paintwork suggests. It appears that most of the panels were renewed during the rebuild. The bulkhead isn't perfect, but passable.

Nice interior with grey Alcantara headlining. All the trim is in good condition. The interior lights, fridge/ freezer, USB charge points and cooker are all working.

There's bench seat in the back, on the left-hand side. I also have a matching seat for the right-hand side, and a nicely-made table that fits down the middle, but these are in Scotland. I can provide them at a later date if the next owner wants them. (I removed them to make it easier to sleep inside.) My sleeping platform was a prototype, so I've removed it.

I thought this Defender would be a long-term keeper so I'm sad to see it go, but I'm now doing too many motorway miles to justify keeping it.
