For sales is my 2001 W208 Mercedes 230 Kompressor CLK Convertible.
I purchased this car in February 2025 as a car for summer fun, classic car shows and having fun with the family.
When I purchased it, it needed some work - perfect, as cars are my hobby. The main issues were that the hood was not working and the car had an ABS and EPS fault which needed to be fixed before MOT could be granted. The abs/ eps fix was pretty straightforward - a wheel speed sensor needed changing, after which it gained a new MOT with no advisories (once I had sorted the rear fog light!).
Then it was on to making the convertible hood work - this turned out go be a combination of low battery, dirty micro switches and the whole system being out of sync. The hood now retracts as it should and closes on the button. The dark blue hood is in fantastic condition (no rips) and has a full glass rear window.
If you know the W208 CLK, you will know that RUST is their enemy. I've had a couple of these over the years and they rust everywhere - rear arches, doors, bonnet, boot. This particular example is in exceptional condition. No rust on the bonnet, doors or boot. A very small amount on the rear right arch but it has not really broken through and certainly wont be an issue provided it is kept clean and dry. Compared with some of the other cars out there, the condition of the body work on this car is excellent.
Upon purchasing the car, I decided to treat it to some AMG monobloc wheels (reps) which were brand new in June. They are 18 inch, deep dish and perfectly suit the car - I get so many compliments when Im out at shows or just driving around. The suspension is standard, it has not been lowered.
I replaced the front pads and did a basic oil service. The car performs great - no issues, gearbox is good, brakes are good, engine is good. No engine management lights on dash. I tend the leave the gearbox in automatic but you can also shift manually using the central great shifter.
Service history is partial. I have the original MB service book which is stamped up until around 2015 but after that there are just old MOT certificates. This is pretty typical of a car this age.
The interior is grey leather and is showing it's age a little but by no means in bad shape. The drivers side bolster is a little worn (see pics). Some of the pixels on the dash info have failed (outside temperature). Someone has previously fitted a Bluetooth radio unit - it connects to the phone and you can play Spotify etc. The radio itself doesnt receive reception - possibly the aerial not connected.
As with any 25 year old car there are a few imperfections which you could either live with or improve; I've taken a picture of the rear arches - a couple of small scrapes on the drivers side rear arch and a small dent on left hand rear arch. There is a small area of lacquer peel on the top of front bumper (see picture.). The hood goes up and down on the button but when it closes, you have to press the button to close the windows (normally it would happen as part of sequence). Because of this, there is a 2 sec "bong" when you drive off as the car believes the roof seqeunce has not fully completed (hood is , in reality, fully closed). Please note the hood is fully working - both up and down on the button - you just have to close the windows at end of sequence on the button.
In summary, a beautiful W208 CLK which needs to be driven and enjoyed. Ive done nearly 2000 miles in the car since its April MOT and it has been a joy to own!
Selling it on as we have had our summer fun and my garage already has a car in it! I'd hate to see this car left outside in the winter
