1990 Defender 110, in a matt Keswick Green. This is a solid and charming classic, raw, robust and full of character.
It has had 4 private owners, after being a military vehicle. Recently passed it´s EU-Control (equivalent of MOT). I bought this 2 years ago with an intention to use it as a family car for trips to Europe and around the Norwegian countryside. However, the rest of my family prefer to travel in our quieter and more modern VW Caravelle. They prefer music, conversation and podcasts rather than the sound of the diesel engine :).
For those who do not know these cars... I have to say, that this one comes with a very reliable and robust 2. 5 Naturally Aspirated Diesel engine. These are renowned for being very simple and easy to work on, but they have no turbo. Hence this is not a car for those wishing to cruise along at motorway speeds.
It really is fantastically suited to a life of pooling along country lanes, and taking in the countryside scenery.
Being from 1990... this car is an example of a vehicle that has been kept in good operational condition, but it has not been in any way restored. There are small bits of rust at the bottom of the door frames. There are small patches of rust around the bulkhead and on isolated parts of the chassis. However, none of this was serious enough to be noticed during the EU-test. This car is in good operational condition. I mention these points, to make it clear that there is a fair bit of work before it would be a ´show´ car.
In my ownership, I feel I have done my fair share of keeping it in good shape.
Over the past 2 years it has had:
New timing belt
New water pump
New crankshaft seal
New master cylinder on the brakes
New tires
New clutch and reconditioned flywheel
New front-section of exhaust pipe (drop-down pipe).
New radiator
The last two, the front exhaust (down-pipe) and the new radiator were all it needed for the last test.
At the moment there are drawers in the boot... but I also have the 4 extra fold-down seats to make it into a 9-seater if required.
I´m offering it for sale in England, because theRight-Hand side is a problem for most norwegian buyers. For any UK buyer, we can discuss transport options: I could either drive it over to UK - but in terms of costs for transport, we would have to investigate while settling on a final price for the car.
Asking price matches Car & Classic´s valuation based on average sales for this make and model. The vehicle has originally been imported from UK to Norway.
Any UK buyer will have to import it back into the country.
