Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1300 Sprint from 1959, in a light celeste blue and with blue and grey upholstery, probably one of the finest colour combinations for this Bertone-designed Alfa Romeo model.
What can I say about the car? In my view it speaks for itself: elegance, sobriety in the lines, but so decisive that it makes it unique, and then the mechanicals, there’s no comparison with later models; the emotion it transmits when you’re behind the wheel is unmatched, or simply, I like it a lot and I can’t find any faults. Fantastically styled, excellent on-road manners, comfort more than decent, given we’re talking about a coupe from the 1950s, when the car was meant primarily to be a display piece, and everything else was put on the back burner. Not for nothing were there versions, at least for other makers, like the OTS for Jaguars or the Speedsters for Porsches, where the emphasis was on cost; they had to be cheap, but to have the minimum, and that minimum was enough to make them unique and highly prized then and now. As always, simplicity pays off, and not by chance the Giulietta Sprint’s lines remain among my favourites: very simple, but as mentioned, decisive; indeed it’s impossible not to recognise it at a first glance, even when it comes into view from afar.
Why buy this Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint 1300? Because it has been fully restored, respecting the original characteristics, and above all, dismantling every single piece, thoroughly cleaning the bodyshell, then carrying out those small bodywork touches it had which were meticulously repaired before being repainted inside and out, top to bottom, the same goes for the mechanics, the chrome and the interior. The engine has been rebuilt anew and matches, it’s its AR 00102; all instrumentation is in kilometres, even though it had been imported from the United States, from the West Coast, to be precise.
To date only about 750 km have been driven since restoration, and almost all by yours truly, and I can confirm it’s my favourite; I love the sound, the styling, the driving comfort, but not only how you sit, but how you appreciate it kilometre after kilometre.
