Volkswagen T25 1983 1. 9 litre Petrol Wasserboxer (Watercooled) DG Pop-Top Camper – Non-Runner Restoration Project
Unfortunately, due to personal circumstances, I’m having to let go of this project. The van was fully operational four years ago, when myself and a friend who is a mechanic decided to give it a complete refurbishment. We made significant progress on the rear of the vehicle, but before work could begin on the front, life was put on hold due to cancer. I’m grateful to have come through the other side, but I no longer have the time or energy to finish the project — so I’m hoping someone else can take it on and bring it back to life.
Work Completed
Everything done so far has been completed to a high standard. We wanted it done properly so it wouldn’t have to be done twice. This included:
Grinding back any rusted areas and welding in new metal where needed.
Applying primer and underseal after all work.
Full refurbishment of the rear suspension, braking system, and structural areas — including the jack points, with poly bushings.
Steel wheels professionally refurbished and fitted with new tyres (x5).
Previous lowering of the vehicle reversed — replaced with standard springs and shock absorbers.
The van has been stored under a cover (purchased new at the time) throughout the project.
Work Still to Be Done
Before we paused the project, the next stage was to carry out similar refurbishment work on the front end. You don’t necessarily need to go into the same level of detail that we were planning, but I had already purchased many of the parts required, which are included in the sale price:
Front springs and dampers (new, unfitted)
Replacement fuel tank — fully painted, with internal tank sealer and primer on the outside
New fuel hoses (included but not yet installed)
The fuel tank simply needs to be connected, and the new fuel lines installed.
