Description
I am the second owner of this Volkswagen Golf Mk1 Cabriolet. I purchased it around ten years ago from a private seller as a restoration project. At the time, the car was a running, driving example before being parked.
Since then, it has been stored in a closed garage, so it now has some age-related issues that will need attention before returning to the road. It does still start and run, but it will require a full service and mechanical recommissioning to be roadworthy again.
The soft-top roof is brand new and has never been used. The interior has also been refurbished and presents in clean condition, although the front seats are currently missing and will need sourcing to complete the cabin.
On the outside, the car still wears its factory original paint — Alpine White (paint code L90E). It has never been resprayed, retaining the honest patina typical of a classic that has been stored.
It remains very close to original specification, including a 4-speed manual gearbox and factory-fit air-conditioning — a rare and desirable option. This is a solid base for someone looking for a straightforward restoration. This Mk1 Golf Cabriolet is an iconic classic that’s becoming increasingly hard to find in honest, original condition — especially with factory air-conditioning and original paint. With just two owners from new, it has a clean and appealing history, making it a great choice for enthusiasts.
It’s the ideal project if you want something genuinely worth putting effort into: the structure is there, the hard-to-find parts like the soft-top are already renewed, and the originality shines through. Once completed, it will be a fun and stylish convertible that’s perfect for weekend drives, shows and classic events.
For someone who appreciates the charm and heritage of the early VW era, this car offers the chance to bring a proper classic back to its best and enjoy the rewards for years to come.
