Description:
The Suzuki Jimny is a legendary compact SUV known for its off-road capability and compact proportions. Arriving in 1970 as the LJ model, it was built with a lightweight ladder-frame chassis, part-time four-wheel drive, and solid axles allowing it to go places where larger vehicles struggle. Three generations later, its boxy design, simple interior, and reliable engineering make it still popular with those who value versatility, durability and practicality over luxury.
This example is the fourth and current generation (JB74W), which sadly now no longer available from Suzuki themselves in the UK thanks to emissions regulations. In commercial guise, they are a fantastic off road-weapon ready to get you, your kit and your dogs wherever you may want to go! Hopping in, the 1. 5 petrol is a ready and eager unit and will haul the little Jimny along nicely. It also keeps things simple in the engine bay making it reliable and relatively inexpensive when it comes to servicing and maintenance. The 5-speed manual transmission with low/ high ranges and selectable four wheel-drive also keeps things simple when the going gets tough – especially with the full set of off road tyres! The original spec tyres are available with the car if you wish to revert back for better road-manners.
Externally, it is in very good condition with just a few marks from general usage – the worse is a few scratches on the LH edge of the bonnet which could be improved from a good machine polish. Inside is also in good condition with no rips or tears in the upholstery. The seating position is a little cramped for the taller driver in the commercial variant due to where they had to put the bulkhead, but this could easily be removed via handful of bolts to allow the seat to go back much further.
The current owner has only used the vehicle for travelling between their two local farms, but now sadly no longer requires it. It would make an ideal alternative to a ‘Gator’/ UTV being better suited to the road and with a warm, secure interior, but would also make an ideal basis for a go-anywhere weekend adventure vehicle… or even just a cool commuter car thanks to its compact proportions, making it just as easy to park as a hatchback!
