This is destined to be a classic, it's an SUV that really is true to the class Sport Utility Vehicle.
We also own a high spec F25 X3 35d and to be honest, I prefer to drive the older E83 car - it's simply more fun!
The steering on the E83 version is hydraulically assisted as opposed to the electric system on the newer car and allows a more sporty, connected feel.
The car is fitted with the factory "aerodynamic body kit" all fully colour coded and includes a twin outlet sport exhaust system that emits a fabulous noise from the 3 litre inline six at higher revs without being obtrusive around town.
The car is completely standard and as such attracts a very low insurance cost.
Passengers have commented on the "posh" interior - probably due to the brightness of the leather and aided by the light coming through the panoramic sliding sunroof.
Finished in Silbergrau metallic paint with Light Sand ambiente leather, the car is highly specified and includes the following:-
full electric windows
electrically heated front seats with memory
lumber support
full leather upholstery
dark maple wood trim
electrically operated sliding panoramic sunroof
heated steering wheel with multi-function controls
full aero body kit
auto lights & wipers
CD multi-changer
electric folding mirrors
climate comfort windscreen
hi-fi speaker system
spare wheel and jack
luggage compartment separating net
fitted velour floor mats
With a new MOT valid until January 2027 and a full set of winter tyres fitted, the car is ready for the coming winter, spring and courtesy of the sunroof, summer and beyond.
For sale, sadly due to lack of use. Following a long search for a highly specified BMW X3 with a light coloured interior, we purchased the car in December 2011 from Cooper Norwich BMW and although around 200 miles from home, we travelled to Norwich to view and test drive the car.
There were a few issues that we pointed out to the dealer and these were attended to prior to delivery.
Both front fog lamps and the heated rear screen were replaced and the rear bumper top was repainted due to some light scratching.
The car was delivered to us by Cooper later in January 2012
The car was supplied with BMW approved used warranty and a number of claims were made under the warranty:-
CD multi-changer
Fuel gauge sender
Battery
In our ownership we have replaced the radiator, cooling fan and other coolant system items, the entire sunroof mechanism and more recently the car has had a throttle body replaced (due to main dealer misdiagnosis!) and subsequently the issue was found to be the central computer which was replaced.
Both rear coil springs have been replaced due to breakage - a common occurrence
The majority of work has been carried out at our local Lloyd BMW dealership. Simple maintenance work has been carried out by myself or a local garage.
The rear discs and pads were replaced some years ago and the front discs and pads were replaced when the car was MOT tested this December.
The car also benefits from a complete set of winter rated tyres that were fitted earlier this year.
For the last 10 years or so the car has been used sparingly and has been SORNed most years for around six months as I have tended to use my Z4 in the summer months.
Whilst the car is clean and tidy there are a couple of negatives to report - the passenger door mirror folding function and the parking sensors only work intermittently. I suspect that the two are connected and a trip to an auto electrician might resolve these.
The obvious cosmetic flaw is that the front bumper has missing paint - this was caused by me driving through a frozen snowdrift back in January 2025.
