1961 Volkswagen Beetle – RHD – Beryl Green – 12v Conversion – £15k+ Spent
1961 Volkswagen Beetle finished in original Beryl Green, right-hand drive, with a later 1300cc engine and 12-volt conversion.
This car has been owned with enthusiasm and significant money invested over recent years. Unfortunately, due to a change in personal circumstances, the car is now offered for sale.
Specification & Work Carried Out
• 1961 VW Beetle, RHD
• Period-correct Beryl Green
• Later 1300cc engine
• 12-volt electrical conversion
• New tyres fitted last year
• New interior (seats, trim etc.)
• Presents very well overall
The bodywork is tidy and usable, with a few small bubbles as you would expect on a car of this age — nothing structural, that I know of, looks good for a 60+ year-old vehicle.
Mechanical
The engine runs well once warm but does have a knock when cold, I drove from York to Leeds recently at 60mph all the way! I have been quoted approximately £3, 000 to resolve this properly by the specialist who restored the car. The car is driveable, and I use it most weekends, but this is reflected in the price.
Costs & Honesty
• Total spend to date: approximately £15, 000
• Sensible buyer will want to budget for engine work
• Selling as a usable, honest classic rather than a fully sorted show car
Summary
A very attractive early Beetle with the right look, colour and upgrades, ideal for someone wanting a classic VW they can improve and enjoy. Realistically priced to reflect condition and mechanical work required.
