Description
This stunning 1926 Itala Model 61, a Ghia-designed sport coupé, is documented in the period ASI records and comes from a prestigious private collection, with a fully traceable history. Extremely rare, with only 10 known examples worldwide, it features matching numbers and is eligible for the Mille Miglia. A similar model with the more common 6-light limousine body appeared in the 2025 edition.
The car boasts elegant and sporty lines, lowered windows, and harmonious, grand proportions. Its body is finished in a blue and green combination with black fenders, emphasizing the period elegance. The paint, though aged, remains presentable, with minor cracks and signs of wear that could be enhanced with careful polishing and a conservatively oriented restoration.
Inside, the original grey cloth seats and wood trim show minor signs of woodworm, highlighting the need for targeted restoration.
Mechanically, the car is surprisingly sound: the 6-cylinder aluminum engine runs well, the 4-speed manual gearbox, clutch, and brakes are fully operational. The advanced mechanical brake booster integrated into the transmission provides strong and safe braking—a sophisticated technology for its time.
Notably, the fuel tank has already received an internal ceramic coating, ensuring above-average preservation and preventing the typical build-up of sludge and rust.
The car is sold without documents but with clear provenance (easily re-registrable). It has undergone minor reversible modifications over time, without compromising its historical integrity.
In summary, this Itala 61 Ghia represents a solid, authentic foundation for a high-level restoration. Its historical value is exceptional, and it is ready to be returned to the condition it truly deserves.
