Description
AJS 500 1964 . A late and rare model from the AMC factory
This machine has been with its current owner for over 15 years . Shortly after purchase it underwent a complete restoration and mechanical overhaul by professionals , It has recorded only 147 miles since this work was completed and has not been started for over 5 years.
The AJS has great compression , the engine is free , all gears engage , the clutch and brakes work . The Bike will require a new battery.
The paintwork remains in great condition as does the chrome , both would respond well to polishing .
In designing this machine, the manufacturers sought to use the best parts from their range of motorcycles as such it features the Norton Roadholder forks and hubs . The engine is the short stroke motor with enclosed push rods tubes . This represented a great improvement on the existing long stroke engine and offered a significant increase in performance .
This was not a successful seller for AMC as the public by then was desirous of unit construction twins and not big singles.
This is a great opportunity to purchase a rare machine at a very competitive price . With a little work it could be up and running and prove an enjoyable motorcycle
