This VOLGA was restored in Ukraine and brought to UK in 2017. It is 1966 series 3 model (1962-1970), known as the Baleen, featured a grille with 34 thin vertical rods. It has 2. 4ltr aluminium 4-cylinder engine producing 80bhp!
The GAZ 21R Volga was produced in the Soviet Union by GAZ, Gorkovsky Automobiljni Zavod (Gorky automobile factory). The first car to carry the Volga name was developed in the early 1950s. Volga’s were built with high ground clearance (which gives it a specific high look, rugged suspension, strong and forgiving engine, and rustproofing on a scale unheard of in the 50’s and 60’s.
The Volga was stylistically in line with the major American manufacturers of the period and incorporated such luxury features as the reclining front seat, cigarette lighter, heater, windshield washer and 3-wave radio.
The upholstery is original colour and when restored was still available from the factory in Nizhny Novgorod. This car is lefthand drive and has been driven most weeks during the summer season. Three gears column change, bench seatsThe Volga became the biggest and most luxurious car officially sold in the USSR, the main users were government officials and high-ranking military officers. The price was very high and hence unavailable to ordinary Russians. The waiting list was typically one year. In total approx. 600, 000 cars were produced between 1950 – 1970.
