Selling on behalf of my son.
1987 Mk2 Type 19 Golf GTI in need of a new owner to restore to its former glory!
This is a project car and will need a lot of time invested in it.
The bodywork is in pretty good condition for the age of the vehicle, however it is unfortunately a non-runner.
It has been sitting idle for a quite a few years now, due to lack of time and money to spend on it.
The engine has been previously swapped to a Mk3 and the transmission has also been swapped.
A new starter motor was fitted in the past year in an attempt to get it running again, but there is a wiring fault between the ignition barrel and the starter. The engine does turn over if you bridge the starter.
It has an after-market exhaust.
The car has been fitted with coilovers, though not sure on the brand.
It also has a full set of BBS wheels.
The interior roof lining has become detached and is hanging down, but the sun roof still opens and is water-tight. This is an original Type 19 Golf with split front windows, ie has a quarter light and a square window.
Bought in 2017, had 12 previous owners, and it was driving ok. Was planning on doing the necessary work to keep it on the road, however eventually ran out of time and money. Initially kept in a workshop/ garage, but for the past few years has been sat on the drive with a cover over it.
As mentioned before, it will need a substantial amount of work to clean it up and get it back on the road, so it is most definitely a project car for the right buyer.
It needs to be seen in reality to fully appreciate the condition.
