Description
This car was raced in the Legends Race Car series in the US. These race series take place in many countries throughout the world including the UK.
The cars were created to allow owner/ drivers with modest resources to take part in exciting racing. The cars are all basically the same space frame with fibreglass bodywork options which are approximate 5/ 8th scale replicas of prewar Nascars in Coupe and Sedan style, this one being a ‘37 Chevy Coupe. The cars all had Yamaha FJ1200 engines with a sequential gear change operating the Yamaha gearbox.
The car has the expected race car features of a full safety cage, full race harness and quick release steering wheel and with a weight less than 500KG and power about 120bhp the power to weight ratio ensures the car is very fast.
I imported this car from the US some years ago but have never got round to doing much with it – the usual problem of just too many projects. I have not had the engine running for several years now but I can confirm it did run, sounded strong and that it still turns freely. You will need a new battery and the brakes will need sorting. Its been racing so the bodywork is not pristine as you would expect.
Obviously it is not road registered and not suitable for the current Legend car series that now race an updated specification of car. So I am selling as a project for a track day or hill climb car, either of which would give an utterly exhilarating drive for not a lot of money. In addition there is the novelty factor – being 5/ 8th scale every child that sees it falls in love with it as its like a big toy. However I am 6’ 2” and don’t have any trouble fitting in it and they were conceived as adult race cars.
I bought as a project for its cute look and exhilarating performance from its great power to weight ratio but too many other projects got in the way and now I need the space.
