Description

SPEEDEX Austin 7 Specials were an early offering from Jem Marsh. Jem MARsh met Frank COStin at a 750 Motor Club event and they went on to form MARCOS Cars.
This SPEEDEX was built on a 1934 Austin 7 base in the late fifties. At some point it was exported to Canada (see photo in snow) but was reimported in 1989.
It has had some tasty tuning done, including an engine upgrade in 2012 (receipts available), and hasn’t covered many miles since then:
SPEEDEX Alloy Head with big valves
Barlow Pressurised Crankshaft Bearing Nosecone
1-1/ 2” Phoenix Crank
High Lift Camshaft
Steel Conrods with Shell Bearings
Believed to be Renault Pistons (according to previous owner but I can’t find any paperwork on this item)
Mocal Canister Oil Filter Conversion
SPEEDEX Alloy Cam Cover
SPEEDEX Alloy Sump
Davies Craig Electric Water Pump and Electric Fan
Twin SU Carburettors
Bosch Distributor
Lucas Sorts Coil
SPEEDEX Independent Front Suspension
Telescopic Shock Absorbers
Hydraulic Brakes (Morris Minor), All cylinders including master were replaced August 2026.
Five Speedex Alloy Wheels on the car, and Three spare Speedex Alloy Wheels without tyres.
Side Mounted Exhaust
British Racing Green with White Racing Roundels.
Alloy body and steel cycle wings
Split tonneau cover.
Twin 6V batteries, these will need replacing soon, I haven’t done it since the new custodian May wish to upgrade to a 12V System which is a fairly simple upgrade, and 12V batteries are way cheaper. (Suggest AGM batteries, compact and lightweight).
This is mainly a road car, I did some mild competition - Hillclimbs at Bo’Ness, Doune and Fintray - the car is good for it, the driver not so much!
Condition is solid, paintwork is not perfect - best described as authentic patina…
The flat Perspex windscreen is showing signs of age related cracking but is solid. I didn’t change it as I was going to fit Brooklands Aeroscreens but other projects got in the way..
Great fun on the road, turns heads, and an inexpensive entry level for “vintage” motorsport.
Road registered, currently SORN but there is easy access to a remote track for a quick blast/ roadtest.
MOT and Tax exempt.
Whole bunch of interesting literature and old receipts etc.

Great fun on the road, turns heads, and an inexpensive entry level for “vintage” motorsport.
