An engine design that originated in the late 1940s, Moto Guzzi’s venerable 90-degree V-twin is still with us today, powering the latest generation of machinery from Mandello del Lario. The first motorcycle to use this remarkable engine, the 703cc V7, appeared in the late 1960s, while the first sporting model, the 748cc V7 Sport, followed shortly afterwards. An acquired taste enjoyed by a discerning minority, the big Guzzi began capturing the imagination of a wider public with the arrival of the 850cc Le Mans in 1976. An attractive machine, the Le Mans looked as though it was doing 100mph while standing still, and on the open road it delivered performance in excess of 130mph.
Introduced in 1978, the 850 Le Mans Mk II was the second generation of Moto Guzzi’s celebrated sports motorcycle. Its predecessor had established the Italian manufacturer as a serious contender in the sporting motorcycle market, alongside the likes of Ducati and Laverda. The Mk II retained the characterful V-twin engine and distinctive shaft drive but adopted more substantial bodywork, giving it a slightly more touring-oriented personality.
in good running order, PVL 867V is being offered, Having been the subject of a previous extensive restoration, it presents well and has been tastefully improved with upgraded switchgear, a new master cylinder, and a round headlight cowl in place of the standard square design.
