Description
1967 Kerry Capitano 48cc – Restored Classic Moped
A wonderful opportunity to acquire a rare and beautifully presented 1967 Kerry Capitano 48cc classic moped, finished in an attractive turquoise and dark green colour scheme with a distinctive two-tone green and cream seat.
This charming little machine has previously undergone restoration and is an interesting example of British motorcycling history.
The Kerry Capitano was a British-market moped based on the Italian Testi design, featuring a Minarelli two-stroke engine.
History and Restoration
The moped was purchased by my late father-in-law, a keen motorcycle enthusiast who took great pride in caring for his vehicles.
It had already undergone restoration when purchased and was described in the original sales advertisement as a show-quality example.
Following purchase, he inspected the machine and started the engine to check its operation. In his own handwritten notes, he confirmed that the engine ran and the transmission operated correctly.
He subsequently prepared the moped for long-term preservation, taking considerable care to protect its condition.
This included draining the fuel tank and carburettor, applying preservative inside the fuel tank, and placing the machine inside a specially purchased protective storage bag with moisture-absorbing material.
The bike was declared SORN and has remained in storage.
It is now reluctantly offered for sale following his passing and the sale of the family property.
Documentation and Provenance
The moped comes with an excellent collection of supporting documentation, including:
* V5C registration document, currently registered in my wife's name.
* East Anglian Cyclemotor Club dating certificate, issued 16 April 2014.
* Original Kerry Capitano rider's handbook.
* Historic MOT certificates from 2016 and 2017, with the last MOT expiring in August 2018.
* Copy of the original sales advertisement.
* Handwritten notes from the previous owner detailing the engine inspection and preservation process.
The dating certificate identifies the machine as a genuine 1967 Kerry Capitano with period-correct components.

Condition and Mechanical Information
The moped underwent restoration before being purchased by my late father-in-law and was described at the time as a show-quality example.
The photographs showing the uncovered moped were taken before it was placed into long-term storage and illustrate its condition at that time.
Following purchase, my father-in-law started the engine and checked the transmission, recording in his handwritten notes that both operated correctly.
He subsequently prepared the moped for preservation by draining the fuel tank and carburettor, treating the inside of the fuel tank with preservative, and enclosing the machine in a specially purchased protective storage bag with moisture-absorbing material.
The moped remains in its protective storage bag and has not been uncovered for a recent inspection. Its current cosmetic and mechanical condition therefore cannot be guaranteed.
The previous owner also documented an issue with the rear light, which was not operating despite the bulb appearing serviceable. This fault has not been investigated.
The bike has not been started or ridden recently and is being offered as a stored classic requiring inspection and recommissioning before road use.
The exact mileage and gearbox specification have not been verified.
Storage and Viewing Information
The moped remains sealed in its protective storage bag in the garage of the family property.
Unfortunately, due to the garage currently being full of stored household belongings, it is not possible to remove or uncover the moped for inspection at present.
All photographs showing the uncovered motorcycle were taken before it was placed into storage. A photograph of the moped in its protective bag is also included.
The current cosmetic and mechanical condition is therefore unverified, and the moped is offered for sale on that understanding.
The buyer will need to arrange suitable collection and transport. The moped cannot be ridden away.
A Lovely Addition to Any Classic Collection
With its distinctive styling, attractive colour scheme, previous restoration and extensive supporting documentation, this Kerry Capitano would make a wonderful addition to a classic motorcycle or moped collection.
It is unusual to find these charming little machines accompanied by such an interesting collection of paperwork and ownership history.
We would love to see it go to an enthusiast who will appreciate the care that has gone into preserving it.

Genuine enquiries and sensible offers welcome.
Collection only.
What makes this little Kerry Capitano special is its wonderful 1960s styling, distinctive turquoise and green colour scheme, and the care that has gone into its restoration and preservation.
It's a charming and increasingly uncommon piece of British motorcycling history, with Italian roots and a character all of its own.
My late father-in-law was a keen motorcycle enthusiast who appreciated unusual classic machines. He purchased this Kerry because of its beautifully restored condition and took great pride in looking after it.
Although he never rode it on the road, he carefully checked its operation before preparing it for long-term storage, documenting the steps he took to preserve it.
One of the things we particularly love is the attention to detail, from the two-tone seat and period styling to the original rider's handbook and collection of historic paperwork.
It's not simply an old moped; it's a lovely example of a bygone era of affordable British motorcycling, with a documented history and plenty of character.
Sadly, following his passing and the sale of the family home, we're unable to keep it.
We would genuinely love to see it go to somebody who shares his enthusiasm for classic motorcycles and will appreciate this wonderful little machine as much as he did.
