Car & Classic Video – We Need You

YouTube used to be a corner of the internet for clips of cats falling over, and for shaky mobile phone footage of… well, we don’t know, it was too shaky. And while there is still of a lot of that thanks to the accessibility of the platform, there is today so much more. In terms of people searching online for things, there is only one site bigger than YouTube, and that’s Google. YouTube is a monster of content today, and there is something for everyone. Back in the day, being on TV was the dream, but now it’s being on YouTube. There is a purity and freedom when it comes to uploading a video. TV is too restricted, it need to please too many people at once. It can’t be focused and direct to an engaged, content hungry audience. YouTube, however, can.

If you weren’t aware, Car & Classic has dipped its toe into the world of YouTube, and we thoroughly enjoyed doing so. We have made ‘farm find’ videos in which we unearthed a Mk8 Jaguar and Mk2 Transit that we even managed to get running. We have brought an old Austin back to life after a decade in a garage. We have explored the most incredible Triumph barn find collection and we have even had a look around the Alvis Car Company, where classic cars are being built in the most wonderful and traditional of ways. We have racked up millions and millions of views, we have enjoyed welcome, positive feedback and we have amassed nearly 30,000 subscribers to our little video channel.

Our output, however, was somewhat sporadic. What with the impact of Covid and other factors, we couldn’t dedicate ourselves to a proper schedule. That, however, has just changed. We have taken on a frankly outstanding videographer who will work for us full time, and as such, we will be able to bring you video content that covers everything the classic car world has to offer. And of course, it will all be filmed in glorious 4k, so you can stream it to your telly should you wish. This is very exciting not only for us, but for you. Video allows us to be so much more immersive with our storytelling, and it lets us show things in a brilliant, dynamic and engaging way.

But what has this got to do with you? Well, firstly we hope you watch the new video content we have planned. And we do indeed have plenty on the drawing board. We have more shoots lined up than we know what to do with, frankly, so there will always be something new for you to watch on our YouTube channel. However, those planned shoots are not the last word in content. We want you. We want your cars, your stories and your adventures. Have you got a beloved classic car that has a brilliant story behind it? Perhaps you own a barn full of forgotten relics that would make for a gripping exploration, or maybe you use your classic for motorsport and would like to have us along for the day to film the action? Whatever it might be, we’re keen to know more.

Car & Classic is not just a website, and it’s not just about sales. Sure, the classifieds and the auctions are the bedrock of what we do here, but we also have the online magazine and of course, the aforementioned video content on the YouTube channel. And it’s all there for you. We want to facilitate your next classic, but we also want to be a hub of resources and of shared enthusiasm for these old machines. We love classics to, if there was a company car park (we work remote) it would be full of old metal. We love old cars, you do to, and we want to tell as many stories as we can. So, if you have something that you think might be worth filming, let us know. Drop our Head of Editorial a line via [email protected] and let’s see what we can do.
