Sold! Episode 4

Much like the late, great Prince did thirty years ago we’re in the process of changing our name. Not our actual name of course – Car & Classic is an institution at this point – but that of our popular auction discussion videos. For those of you that have been keeping up to date with our YouTube channel you will be familiar with the Going, Going, Gone! series, which sees the dynamic duo of our very own Chris Pollitt and Richard Brunning of Bad Obsession Motorsport fame dissecting all things that go under the virtual hammer here at Car & Classic. Well, from now on we’ll be calling it “Sold!”. A much more poignant and succinct moniker we’re sure you’ll agree while still being much less pretentious and baffling than a random symbol. We do love you though artist formerly known as…

On to episode four now, the ‘VLOG’, or “vodcast” as we’re told these things are called nowadays, retains the same format as previous instalments, which is basically two enthusiasts discussing cars. Seeing as how this is pretty much how we spend our days here at Car & Classic anyway (in between providing an excellent platform and marketplace) we thought we’d stick a camera on a tripod and hit record to capture some of that back and forth for your enjoyment.

In the latest video, Chris and Richard delve once more into the veritable buffet of beautiful classics that is the Car & Classic Auctions platform and pick out three each of their favourites. This shorter format (previously there were ten cars discussed rather than just six) allows us to create shorter, more impactful and more regular Sold! episodes to sate your classic car desires, so head over to our channel now to catch up.

Pollitt’s premiere pick this time around is this rather mean looking Ford Mustang Coupe. Prompting the inevitable muscle car chat Richard concurred with Chris’ choice and it was agreed that Matt black paint is difficult to pull off, unless it’s covering a 1969 Mustang of course. This particular car sold for the bargain price of just £19,750.

Richard then swung to the opposite end of the automotive spectrum for his first selection, choosing this delightful Honda S800. A rare thing and despite packing a tiny, wee, sub-800cc engine it does rev to 10,000rpm and weighs as much as very small chihuahua.

If you haven’t heard of The Beast since it sold via our auctions platform earlier this year then where have you been?! This one of a kind monster sold for over £70,000 and you can read all about it in our dedicated mag feature.

From a 27-litre V12 aeroplane engine to a much more sedate 2.5-litre straight-six this 1973 Triumph TR6, that needs a little finishing off to see it back to its factory best, was Richard’s second choice. It’s not just us Brits who like the TR6, the Yanks did too with so many being exported to the States. They gave us the Mustang and we repaid the favour with the TR6.

Rounding out the video is the achingly pretty Riley RME, which sold for just £8,200 with full service history, alongside a 1973 Volvo P1800ES. We love a wagon (I personally have a Volvo 940 Turbo estate) and so does Brunning because he chose this The Beast-esque Swedish shooting brake in beautiful condition as his final car.

Join us next time as our pair of petrolheads select another trio of tasty treats from our auctions and who knows, they could very well be discussing your new ride, so get bidding.
