The Appeal
It is testament to BSA’s engineering team that, having successively wrung more and more performance from the Gold Star, sufficient to keep the bike at the front of the TT pack, in 1955 it extracted even more. The result was the DBD34 Clubman, the bold, brutal and final flourish of an iconic British racer.
Any Gold Star is a collector’s dream, but the DBD34 Clubman is the, well, gold standard. These later bikes were developed to bring more wins at the Isle of Man TT and proved so highly evolved and finely balanced that it took real skill to ride them. Such was the level of factory tuning that each one was slightly different, delivering its power in marginally different ways all the way up to the 7,000rpm red line.
This 1956 DBD34 was first UK registered in 1989 and has had just two previous keepers. The current one acquired it in 2004. It is in lovely condition, not show but with a gentle patina that adds a subtle character to this most evocative of racers.
Built in small numbers, owners tend to hang onto their DBD34s for understandable reasons. Here is a great opportunity to join the club.
