- Has spent its life in Spain
- Mechanically overhauled in 2018
- Recent new cream canvas roof
- Versatile pick up with wood-lined rear deck
The Appeal
The Gipsy was a victim of circumstances. Launched in 1958 as a slightly belated rival to the established Land Rover, its key advantage to buyers was its clever ‘Flexitor’ ride that was considerably more cossetting that its Solihull competitor.
Sadly the BMC merger killed what was a very promising model. This 1966 Gipsy is one of the improved Series 2 models that got improved suspension and more conventional doors. It is the 111in Pick up version with 2.2L 55bhp diesel engine. A BMIHT certificate confirms it has spent its entire life in Spain.
Finished in period dark green with white bonnet and recent cream canvas roof, it is a very tidy car with lots of practical potential. The large rear deck is trimmed in wood and included long bench seats. The history file shows considerable work to the mechanicals in 2018.
