The Appeal
Mercedes’ safety engineer Bela Barenyi is the man responsible for the W110’s reputation for safety and being ‘overbuilt,’ but it was stylish Friedrich Geiger whose work gave it its enduring name - the Heckflosse, or ‘Fintail.’ The engineering and that touch of transatlantic flair accounted for 628,000 sales over just seven years.
Today these durable cars make great classic saloons, their reliability and sense of quality setting them apart from their contemporaries. This lovely pale blue 200 began its life in Germany before arriving in the UK in 2010. Since then it has had just four keepers and been regularly maintained by the same specialist for most of its UK life. It is an older restoration that remains in good order, albeit with a few points to note in photos.
The large history file records a long list of work by specialist Redcastle Classics. We’ve provided details below, with highlights including brake, steering, fuel system, suspension, coolant and heater system work alongside servicing. The propshaft and timing chain have also been replaced with few miles since completion. The car is naturally MOT exempt by age, but there is a helpful recent MOT from June 2024 to assist buyers.
A tidy and very stylish post-war classic that has clearly been properly maintained in recent years.
