The Appeal

For those well and truly smitten with classic motoring, a Morgan has a great deal to offer. Their handbuilt cars proved a popular sporting choice pre-war, and it’s fair to say they were so pleased with the winning formula that they carried on for decades afterwards. To this day, Morgan continue to bring together vintage styling with the modern drivetrains.
This 1966 4/4 looks every bit like it was built three decades earlier, and yet under the bonnet, we find Triumph’s 2138 cc inline-four taken from the TR4. Moreover, this particular 4/4 has been subject to a great deal of mechanical engancement over the forty years of previous ownership and therefore is amongst the most thoroughly sorted examples you’re likely to find. Presented in lovely restored condition, it’s a great opportunity that’s not to be missed.

The History and Paperwork

  • The previous owner acquired the Morgan in 1982
  • Substantial history file
  • Numerous invoices present from throughout the car’s life in the UK, Netherlands and Belgium
  • A detailed record of the car’s history has been compiled by the previous owner
  • Currently registered in the Netherlands
  • Resides in the Netherlands at present

The Interior

  • Black leather upholstery with green piping which complements the exterior
  • Light patina to the seats
  • Well presented door cards
  • Beautiful varnished dashboard
  • Period ivory Smiths dials with some nice age to the fascias
  • Four-spoke sprung ‘Brooklands’ steering wheel
  • Some light wear is evident to the black carpeting

The Exterior

  • Subject to an older restoration which has held up very well indeed
  • Handsome dark green paintwork with very few blemishes
  • The brightwork appears in very fine overall condition
  • A luggage rack has been chosen that is mounted on the spare wheel that is sunk into the bodywork
  • All appears immensely straight and solid
  • The soft top operates correctly and looks free from damage or any misting to the windows

The Mechanics

  • 2138 cc Triumph inline-four sourced from a TR4
  • TR4 four-speed manual gearbox
  • All upgrades are documented in a file put together by the previous owner
  • Said to be running well
Various upgrades include:
  • Koni shock absorbers
  • Oil cooler
  • BTR rear axle
  • High-performance radiator
  • SU carburettors
  • Electric fuel pump
  • Electronic ignition
Other work has reportedly included:
  • The fitment of new brake cylinders
  • New clutch master cylinder

Summary

This immensely smart and thoroughly sorted Morgan 4/4 would be the perfect steed for road trips or long-distance rally events. Impeccably presented and boasting a raft of sensible upgrades, it’s one of the best older Morgans we’ve seen.
