Since its debut in 1963, the Porsche 911 has blazed a trail for rear-drive rear-engine sports cars. Porsche refined this driver-centric formula throughout subsequent decades, with the rally-inspired mid-Eighties 959 becoming the world’s fastest production car, and arguably the greatest rear-engine Porsche ever manufactured.
With only 292 examples of the 959 ever manufactured, and seven-figure price tags attached to every remaining model, this extraordinary 911 is bound to command attention. It features a cleverly recreated 959 body draped over an original 1966 911 bodyshell. A bare metal rebuild has resulted in a hand-layered Kevlar body, with a full respray providing a lustrous take on Porsche’s Guards Red paint.
Almost every component on this car has been upgraded following a ground-up rebuild, from the suspension and steering to the brakes and wiring. The three-litre engine’s component parts and connecting cables gleam, while the 959-style wheels are superb. The interior blends period detail, including five traditional dials and lighting pull-switches, with modern additions like Sparco racing seats and a Sony audio system.
Combining the 959’s iconic looks and soundtrack with the driving experience of an early 911, allied to the reassurance of a rebuilt engine and gearbox, this remarkable hybrid represents a truly unique opportunity.

This fully restored 911 is notable for more than featuring a 959 bodyshell over a bare-metal 911 monocoque. It has seen minimal use in the decades following its ground-up rebuild, when virtually every component was refurbished or replaced, right down to the windows and rubbers.
Inside, period 911 features include reupholstered rear bucket seats with lap belts, and the classic five-dial instrumentation with a central rev counter set behind a four-spoke Lecarra steering wheel. The immaculate five-spoke 959 wheels are shod in Dunlop tyres with plenty of tread. The vendor describes the interior condition as being “as new”, featuring contemporary electronics like a dash-mounted Sony stereo powered by a Kenwood amplifier.
There are signs of wear across some fabrics, and a paintwork scrape along the front passenger sill, but the car’s overall condition appears exceedingly good both internally and externally.
New suspension and steering, brakes and wiring fitted as part of the conversion work
Lifting the engine cover on this 959-styled Porsche reveals a 3.0-litre engine of a type first introduced to the 911 a decade after this model left the factory. Built and installed in the late 1980s, this motor sits within an immaculate engine bay. Used sparingly during current ownership, it's time for a new custodian to enjoy this unique classic Porsche.DSC06954.jpg827.07 KB
