The Appeal
Few cars of the era are quite as enduring as Mercedes’ Pagoda. It is a testament to the car’s design and engineering that it remains so handsome and so usable so many years on from its introduction.
The larger-engined 280SL was introduced to make short work of long Interstate journeys, which likely explains why it remains so popular as a classic tourer. This very attractive Midnight Blue car adds power steering and an auto box to lean firmly into that long-legged cruising theme.
The car is in very good condition thanks to considerable investment by previous owners. Highlights include a full respray in the original colour and a top end engine rebuild including new valves, gaskets, seals and water pump. A current voluntary MOT to March 2026 with no advisory confirms the condition and provides transparency for buyers.
Whether you choose to buy this car for a road trip or instead to simply stand and admire a marvellous piece of design, this car will surely be appealing.

The car was recently resprayed in the original colour and features a matching hard top. Both are in very good order, as is the renewed soft top. The grey cabin retains correct original features and is in great condition, with just a slight hint of patina to some areas.

Mercedes’ big 2.8L straight six gave the W113 the power to match its GT pretensions. In combination with this car’s auto box and power steering it is, as we’ve noted above, the ideal car for touring.
Those trips are made considerably more accessible by the car’s recent maintenance. That includes a top end engine rebuild with few miles since completion. The car is said to run and drive well, the soundtrack aided by a full Powerflow stainless steel exhaust system. Further reassurance is provided by the voluntary MOT, which runs to March 2026 with no advisories.
