The appeal

When you think of a small car, the Fiat 500 instantly comes to mind. These adorable city cars perfectly capture the charm of a simple, no-nonsense automobile—yet with a charisma and personality like no other. Having become true Italian icons, they’ve long since crossed beyond the borders of the peninsula.
With its air-cooled twin-cylinder producing 18 DIN hp and its non-synchromesh gearbox that demands you master double-declutching, this 500 delivers a distinctly analogue driving experience that will delight fans of traditional mechanical engineering. There’s no electronics or driving aids here—just the pleasure of driving.
This 1971 example has had just three owners since leaving the factory and has been owned by the current keeper since 2016. Its history is especially well documented: it traces back to the Cachia garage in Bondy, before being purchased in 1972 from the Fiat Moline dealership in Loire-Atlantique. Supporting paperwork is kept on file.
The bodywork has undergone professional restoration to address corrosion issues. During this work, the car was repainted yellow, whereas it was originally white. The mechanical components have also benefited from plenty of maintenance and recommissioning work, all documented by invoices.
This year, the car passed its French technical inspection successfully, with no re-test, and is now ready to get back on the road with its next owner.

BEFORE YOU BUY
This sale is subject to Car & Classic’s general terms and conditions. By bidding and/or making an offer, you also agree to the following:
✓ The seller is registered as a private seller, meaning that consumer rights arising from European consumer protection legislation do not apply. However, you are still covered by Car & Classic’s general terms and conditions.
✓ We require non-refundable fees to be paid if you are the successful bidder at auction and/or if your offer is accepted. Please refer to our FAQs and general terms and conditions for the specific fee amounts.
✓ This vehicle is “sold as seen”, on a “take it or leave it, where it is” basis, and without any warranty. The photos and descriptions are provided for guidance only and it is standard practice to arrange a full inspection of the vehicle before purchase, for your own peace of mind.
VAT is included in the buyer’s deposit. VAT may or may not be included in the final offer price or submission price, as specified in the listing.
✓ We want the transaction to run smoothly, just like you do, and that’s why UK-registered cars and motorcycles listed on Car & Classic are subject to an HPI check to verify that they have no basic database markers for insurance damage or theft, and that they are not subject to any financial charge/lien—so you can bid with confidence.
We also check whether vehicles are recorded as written-off as part of a total loss claim at the time the listing is placed on Car & Classic, and we provide category write-off labels (Cat C/D/S/N) to help. The presence or absence of a label, however, does not guarantee the vehicle’s status, and it is still useful to carry out a full vehicle history check before making an offer.
Buyers are responsible for vehicle collection or delivery. Importing vehicles may lead to additional customs duties and import taxes. If you wish, we can recommend a third-party transport company to help. For more details and to speak with the team, email auctions@carandclassic.com
