1975 BMW R90S

Highlights

  • Documented ownership history from new in 1975
  • Matching engine and frame numbers reported
  • Engine rebuilt approximately 35,000 miles ago
  • Original, well-preserved example with nice patina
  • Recommissioned in early 2026 with Motorworks invoices

The Appeal

The BMW R90S is widely regarded as one of the most significant motorcycles of the 1970s: the first production bike to wear a bikini fairing and, at the time of its launch, the fastest production motorcycle in the world. With its 898cc air-cooled flat twin, five-speed gearbox and distinctive cockpit fairing, the R90S set the template for the sporting tourer and remains one of the most sought-after BMW motorcycles ever made.
This 1975 example is an honest, original survivor. It is reported to carry matching engine and frame numbers and comes with a documented ownership history stretching back to new. Its mileage - just over 100,000 miles - is reportedly warranted through MOT history dating from 1979, including a documented odometer rollover. The engine was rebuilt approximately 35,000 miles ago, and a recent compression test returned healthy results well within the factory specification.
Having been stored as part of a private collection for over a decade, the machine was subsequently returned to use and has benefited from specialist attention. The current owner recommissioned it earlier this year through Motorworks, with invoices included.

The vendor says:

"An honest, well-documented R90S with matching numbers, continuous history and verified mileage from new. It rides exactly as an R90S should: the flat twin pulls cleanly from low revs, and once settled into a cruise it feels relaxed and stable, this was the bike that could hold 100mph+ all day when nothing else could, and it still munches miles in comfort. Despite its size it feels like a narrow, compact middleweight once aboard. What I'll miss most is that effortless, long-legged character, a genuinely usable classic rather than a garage ornament."
