The Appeal
If you are on the search for something delightfully different from the obvious ‘70s classic car choices of an MGB or a Triumph TR6, feast your eyes on this quirky and lesser-seen gem: a 1975 Sunbeam Alpine Fastback. Built during the Rootes Group’s twilight years under Chrysler’s wing, this rakish coupe is one of the rare survivors of a model that dared to blend British charm with svelte European-inspired fastback flair. Power comes from a notoriously strong five-bearing 1,725cc inline-four cylinder engine fed by a single Stromberg carburettor—the perfect combination for cruising and enjoyable weekend drives, and also making the car an ideal starter classic.
This particular example comes from the final year of production—and is a rare example, with only a handful thought to still be road-going today. A classic that will likely turn heads at classic meets, and even spark conversations for those unaware of the model’s existence, this example is finished in a quintessentially 1970s colour scheme, and has been recently acquired by the seller from his vintage car mechanic uncle who is noted to have kept it in fine order.
Originally registered in the United Kingdom, this example is noted to have arrived in Northern Ireland in the ‘70s or ‘80s where it found the seller’s uncle who carefully stored and regularly maintained the vehicle, preserving it in impressively original condition. Fitted with an automatic transmission the seller notes this car is in solid cosmetic order, running and driving well, and ready to be used.
