The Appeal
In the 70s, while the Capri was busy tail-sliding around London and bashing through boxes on TV, Opel’s Manta B was doing real work, dominating Group B rally stages in the pre-Quattro era.
Despite that provenance, good Mantas are surprisingly rare, particularly the non-GT/E models. This ‘79 SR has been professionally restored to blend early SR and later GT/E aesthetics into a distinctive, eye-catching mix. We are told that the work cost £15,000 and it certainly looks smart in dark metallic blue, which extends to the body colour bumpers and side skirts. Inside is a well-preserved blue velour interior.
The work included overhauling the 2L carburettor-fed engine. There are also new tyres, shocks and replacement exhaust system. The vendor reports that the car will be sold with a fresh, voluntary MOT.
