The Appeal
The Nissan 1400 Pick Up (or "Bakkie" as it's affectionately known in South Africa) is a true automotive icon that enjoyed an incredible production run spanning over four decades. Launched originally as the Datsun 120Y pickup in 1972, this model remained largely unchanged in its basic design, becoming a cultural touchstone and workhorse that helped build a nation. This particular example from 1982 represents a survivor example that was well maintained and preserved, this is one of the earlier models from this legendary production run, preserved in a condition that is rarely encountered today.
This specific 1400 Bakkie stands out for its originality and preservation. Having been purchased from a farmer in the interior of South Africa, it was used solely as personal transportation and never subjected to the hard labour these vehicles were typically known for. The result is an example with remarkably low mileage that acts as a time capsule to the eighties, when it left the factory.
