The Appeal
Boasting courageous new styling and, most uncharacteristically for Porsche, a 4.7-litre V8 engine up front, the 928 signalled a new direction for the Stuttgart-based manufacturer. Destined to be the flagship model in the Porsche range, the 928 attempted to combine sports car handling with the luxury and refinement of the grand tourer.
This 1983 928S was supplied new to Canada and has recently been imported to the Netherlands. It presents well inside and out although is not currently in a running state. A few areas will of course need tidying up, but we think it will make a great recommissioning project for its next owner.
The History and Paperwork

The Interior
- Well presented and very clean
- Looks to be original and largely untouched
- The perforated leather seats display some wear and are coming away at a few of the seams
- With a few repairs and some reconditioning, we reckon the upholstery will clean up well
- Some cracking to the top of the dashboard
- All the dashboard appears in good order
- Blaupunkt Tucson stereo fitted
- The black carpeting presents well with some slight wear
- Only light signs of use to the controls
- The headlining looks in really good shape
The Exterior
- Black paintwork in reasonable overall condition
- The paint finish has failed on the nearside rear wing but is otherwise fairly presentable
- There is some lacquer peel, fading and other small imperfections apparent in places
- We’re informed that the bodywork is really sound, with no structural corrosion
- Looking down the sides, the car appears quite straight with good panel fit and door shuts
- The pop-up headlamps are a great feature that really make the 928 stand out
- The alloy wheels look to be in great condition
- From what we could see, the light lenses, glass and trims are in good order
The Mechanics
- ‘S’ specification with a 4.7-litre water-cooled V8 engine
- Looks really smart and very clean under the bonnet
- We’re informed that the car is not currently in running condition
- Automatic gearbox
- Nothing appears to have been disassembled, making this a great starting point for a project
Summary
With ‘80s classics really coming of age, this 928 would make a fabulous project and will be a great GT once back on the road.
