The Attractions
Like many manufacturers in other European nations, Fiat was impressed by the all-terrain capabilities of the Willys Jeep and was inspired by it. After the war, the need arose for both a domestically produced military vehicle and one suited to the needs of rural communities plagued by rough roads.
The second generation 1107 updated the aesthetics with a boxy, functional style. It proved perfect for military and civil use, including the famous white-painted version that became the Popemobile. In most cases it was equipped with the 2-litre petrol engine from the Fiat 132.
This ex-military 1107 was registered for private use in 2003, but retains its military aesthetic with a pleasant patina. It is fitted with an LPG system to improve running economy but is completely and pleasingly standard in every other respect. A versatile seven-seater that is solid and in good condition, perfect for tackling any obstacle in its path.
