The Appeal
As good an actor as Dustin Hoffman is, it’s reasonable to suggest that the Alfa Spider in The Graduate outshone him. To help sales of its new Series 3 Aerodinamica Spider, it was an obvious decision then for Alfa to launch a special ‘Graduate’ model for the USA market. Designed as a value-led, entry model with classic red paintwork and steel wheels, it was a huge success, accounting for half of all North American Spider sales over its five-year production run.
This Graduate is a launch-year car that, just like Hoffman’s original, spent its life in California. It moved to France in 2021 when it joined the current keeper’s Spider collection. It has been dry-stored and unused since then, so it may need some mechanical reconditioning due to an extended period in storage.
We’re told that the car has been resprayed but is otherwise very original, including the interior and sills. It presents well in photos and offers the buyer a chance to acquire a popular Spider special edition with scope to improve and add value.
