The Appeal
The XJS had utterly cemented itself by the 80s - but it was quite a gas-guzzler. As the fuel crisis bedded in, Jaguar introduced a less thirsty variant of their legendary buttressed beauty - with a brand new AJ6 6-cylinder powerplant. It was exactly what the doctor ordered, and they further followed market trends by introducing a convertible variant of the vehicle - admittedly at the expense of its rear seats, which were never particularly useful in the first place.
By nature, that made targa top cars with the V12 particularly rare - in fact, only around 1,500 are known to have been built. A glorious bit of excess, really. Cruising in the sunshine in a luxe convertible with a butter-smooth 12-cylinder block under the bonnet? What more could you possibly need?
This fabulous 1987 example also comes in the relatively scarce European spec, with a very eyecatching livery that it only shared with four of its build mates. A real unicorn for an XJS enthusiast, and beautifully presented.
