The Appeal
In the late 1970s, Jaguar CEO John Egan saved the XJS from the chop. His decision to ramp up the luxury and dramatically improve quality resulted in this car, the much-improved 1980s 5.3L, with its chrome bumpers, lattice alloys and wood-lined interior. For many enthusiasts of Browns Lane's long-lived GT, this mid-period V12 is the one to have.
We suspect few have the provenance of this one. It began its life on Jaguar's Company Car fleet, before passing to its first keeper. He kept it until 1993, when the current keeper acquired it. He's cherished it ever since, always using it as a weekend/second car and garaing it between uses.
That care likely explains why the Signal Red paintwork and rare black leather interior are so well kept. There are a few points to note, including on the current MOT test, but it wears its mileage and 39 years lightly. The service history shows a run of 23 stamps, all except one by main dealers or specialists and verifying the low mileage for the year. It was last serviced in early 2025 with barely 50 miles covered since.
